Wheel and Tire Group

Andrew

When I was a kid assembling 1/24 scale Tamiya sports car models, I was never much interested in assembling the wheels because I felt the wheels covered up the cool inner workings of the car. But I have learned to compromise, every car needs wheels. On my "ideas wall" in the garage, I have a few pictures of Per Eklund's Factory-Backed Pikes Peak Viggen (with which he won). And his car had gold wheels. Now mine does, matt gold power coat after ensuring the wheels were straight and true.

The technical tracks in New Mexico are famous/hated for being tire-eating monsters. The spec-Miata guys (along with many others) run Falken Azenis which bring agressive Japanese rubber compounds at an extremely fair price point. Plus every Discount Tire can get them. Plus they smell good fresh in a hot summer garage.
