My very first car was a 1996 Saab 900 SE Turbo circa 2003. My father is a car guy and it turned out that he had considered Saabs for my first motorized transport based on their safety and robust build quality. I had the 900 through high school and into college. I survived a major under steer accident through a cattle fence on a country road in Oregon. With the help of family and a friendly auto parts store manager, we changed a failed power steering pump in 105deg Las Vegas heat half way into a 1400mi road trip to New Mexico. And although I ended up parting ways with the 900 for a Toyota truck, something about the Saab ways had been permanently cemented within the emotion registries of my mind.
