I should have taken a picture of all of the wires I chopped from the looms in the car. Just imagine a large Rubbermaid tote of wires. I mean, looking over the factory WIS wiring diagrams made me feel like I knew everything there is to know. Except I had mistaken the wires going to the trim piece for the ignition switch cover/key base as powering illumination and not a small antenna for the car to recognize the key, disable the mobilizer, and permit the car to start. Yeah, but I learned. The resulting humbleness makes me better, right?
But after a trip to the auto salvage yard for a new PN 47 14 770 ignition key cover, some 60/40 rosin core solder, and heat shrink the car fired immediately. Those small moments are some of the best in my book, so much anticipation, then excitement, then satisfaction. The car (make a note I need to find a Scandi name) was up and going again. Good oil pressure, no leaks, no crazy smoke, ready to go.
