A Necessary Upgrade

Andrew

Updated: Oct 28, 2020

I was lucky to reconnect with the dad of my high school friend who continues to run a hugely successful fleet of BMW race cars. Emails of encouragement followed and soon it became clear that I would tackle fabricating my own roll cage. I am relatively decent at FCAW welding but I would need a no-kidding, professional grade GMAW/MIG welding machine to meet NASA roll cage requirements. I was fortunate enough to have a really good friend in Southeast New Mexico that taught me the ways of MIG welding on this very Millermatic 180. A few texts later and the deal of the century was made -- the happy 180 would be relocated to my new garage. After some help from a licensed electrician, the little blue beast was up and running. The quality of welds are simply amazing, the machine really does a lot of the work!
