Finding the new Saab recruit for the racing program was not especially easy -- a 3 door Saab 900 or 9-3 with a manual transmission is getting pretty hard to find these days. Perfectly timed in the middle of buying a house (like the most stressful time, ha), I had a note left on the windshield of my Viggen at work. The note said that another 1999 Lightening Blue Viggen was available in Northern New Mexico and the the owner was open to selling it. What are the odds, I am always amazed by Saab people and the small but vigilant group of people who know and own these cars! 5 minutes after getting a photo via text, I decided to add a second Viggen to the fleet; this second Viggen would be the new race car. Although complete and in-full a real, live Viggen, the poor car had a front end from a 1995 900. Looking over the Carfax, the once handsome Swede had at one point been totaled and in and out of a string of East Coast salvage yards, eventually spending years in Hawai'i prior to finding its way to my shop. Nevertheless, the 2.3l B235R, Viggen body kit, and special Viggen 5-speed transmission were all the right parts!
A Lucky Starting Point
