The racing Saab ran like a top at all of the 2022 races and was consistently towards the front of my run group, "1978 and newer, open class." And, well, I ended up winning my championship. In a car I assembled in my garage. And in a car that was never intended to become a track car.
I'm really happy with the Saab and short of some extreme tire/wheel stuff or cutting the back half off to try to get even lower weight, I think the Saab is just about as fast, and reliable, as I can get it. It will certainly stay in the collection and now I'm left to start to consider how to keep further developing my racing skills...perhaps a Spec Miata or something. I read this article a number of months ago and while I certainly have enjoyed taking the challenging route and converting a street Saab into a dedicated racing Saab, the bit about learning and growing in a spec class has me...thinking hard about trying a spec class. More to follow in 2023.
